The United Kingdom has an abundance of castles still standing in some form today. Some Castles are still complete and many in ruins of different variations. England alone has over 800 medieval castles with visible remains. Wales has a further 600, Scotland around 1500 and around 40 in Northern Ireland. The earliest castles date back to the 11th century.
