Dating back to over 2000 years York Minster stands proudly in the centre of the city of York on Deangate.

The Minster has links to both the Romans and the Vikings from years gone by and signs of this can be found around the Minster.

York Minsters collection has around 300,000 objects. some of which are over 1,000 years old like the Horn of Ulf for example. This carved elephant tusk was a gift to the Minster from the Viking Lord Ulf.

York Minster is well know for its medieval stained glass and a visit to the Lady Chapel will reveal the Great East Window – the largest piece of medieval stained glass in the UK.

The Minster has been in the news more recently with the unveiling of a sculpture of the late Queen Elizabeth the 2nd. This statue was unveiled by King Charles the 3rd on the 9th of December 2022.

As well as the permanent collection the Minster has regular exhibitions and displays.
