The merging of two museums in 2006 was the foundation for the birth of the National Museum of Scotland.
Combining the museum of Scotland and the Royal Scottish museum which stand side by side on Chambers street in Edinburgh the National Museum of Scotland has collections relating to Scottish history and culture.
Some items of interest on display include the maiden, an original guillotine, Celtic brooches, flags from the battle of Culloden between the Jacobite’s and Hanoverians and St Ninian’s Isle treasure.
As well as the permanent collection the National Museum of Scotland has various seasonal exhibitions. See the official website for current exhibitions details.
