Sunderland has a rich and historic heritage in the glass industry and in particular glass blowing.
Saint Benedict Biscop, arrived in Sunderland, way back in the 7th Century AD. The Anglo-Saxon abbot brought with him a team of French glaziers who went on to produce the stained glass for the fantastic windows at Bishopwearmouth Monastery.
