Salisbury Cathedral is a medieval Anglican cathedral located in Salisbury, England. It is known for having the tallest spire in England, reaching a height of 404 feet, and for its stunning example of early English architecture. The Cathedral was built in the 13th century and features a variety of architectural styles, including Early English Gothic and Decorated Gothic.
Inside the Cathedral, visitors can see the Magna Carta, one of four surviving copies of the document that was sealed by King John in 1215, and the Salisbury Cathedral clock, one of the oldest working clocks in the world dating from the 13th century.
The Cathedral is also home to the world’s oldest working mechanical clock, the Salisbury Cathedral Clock and the best preserved of the four surviving copies of the Magna Carta, which is on display in the Chapter House.
The Cathedral Close, the area surrounding the Cathedral, is also worth visiting, it has a variety of medieval and Georgian buildings, including the Bishop’s Palace and the houses of the Cathedral canons, visitors can also find the Salisbury Museum located in the close.
It is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and is considered one of the finest examples of Gothic architecture in Europe.
