The National Slate Museum in Llanberis Wales is situated in the old Victorian workshops of an old large now disused quarry called Dinorwig.
This quarry closed down in 1969 however it is the perfect place to explore and learn about the revolutionary Slate industry.
You can explore the workshops, the chief engineers house, the Iron and Brass foundry, the loco shed complete with a steam engine built in 1905 and see the amazing waterwheel that powered a lot of the machinery.
The museums is free to enter.
It also has events and talks on regularly like the current ‘Introduction to Blacksmithing’ (April 2023).
Be sure to check out the official website for current events.
