The National Railway museum is a fantastic place the visit. Not only for Railway enthusiasts but also for all the family.

The museum, located off Leeman road in York is also FREE to enter. You do however need to book admission tickets and can do this online via the website.

As well as the many locomotives on display the museum also has other display and exhibitions for example Ambulance Trains. The story of how the railways helped move injured soldiers form the front lines in World War One.

Some amazing Locomotives on display include;

  • London and North Eastern Steam Locomotive ‘Mallard’ from 1938
  • Furness Railway Steam Locomotive ‘Coppernob’ from 1846
  • Shutt End Railway Steam Locomotive ‘Agenoria’ from 1829
  • A 1976 ‘Bullet Train’ from West Japan Railways
  • Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry Diesel Locomotive

The Museum is open Wednesdays to Sundays from 10am to 5pm.

There are 2 cafes onsite and a Museum Shop where you can also purchase a variety of gifts and souvenirs.
