The Ancient monument of Kirkstall Abbey is located just outside Leeds and surrounded by beautiful gardens and parkland and not to mention the nearby River Aire.

Originally built in 1152 it is one of very few remaining and near complete Cistercian monasteries remaining in the UK today.
During Henry the 8th’s reign it was disestablished and awarded to Thomas Cranmer. In later years around 1556 it was returned back to the crown.

Exploring this Grade 1 listed building helps you imagine how life as a monk would have been and learn about the history of this ancient, historic Abbey.

Kirkstall Abbey is free to enter and a visit to the website prior to your visit is worthwhile to plan your tour.
