Inveraray Jail dates way back to the early 1800’s opening in 1820.
There are 2 prison blocks on the site, the ‘old prison’ and the ‘new prison’.
The courthouse is also on site.
In 1889 the ‘new Prison’ block opened as was a model prison with much better facilities than the old prison.
You can explore both prisons and the courthouse during your visit to Inveraray Jail.
You can sit in the courthouse amongst the Judge, barristers, Police and accursed and listen to actual trials dating back over 150 years.
All in all this is a very interesting museum to visit.
Finish off with a stroll around the beautiful town of Inveraray located on the banks of the sea Loch Fyne.
