Edinburgh Castle, situated high above the city of Edinburgh, on castle rock dates back to the 12th century.
It is a fantastic sight and well worth a visit especially walking towards it up the royal mile.
Edinburgh castle is run by the Scottish government and the British Army, each having their own areas and roles to play.
When exploring the castle you can visit;

  • the Portcullis Gate
  • the Argyle Tower
  • the National War Museum of Scotland
  • the Upper Ward via Foog’s gate where you can see a 15th-century siege gun known as Mons Meg.

Every year in August the Edinburgh Tattoo draws in thousands off visitors who watch the military tattoo including the massed pipes and drums of the various Scottish regiments.

Unfortunately Edinburgh Castle does have an admission fee.
It may be worthwhile to visit the official website prior to visiting to read the latest, most up to date information and check the admission fees.
There is a link to the official website of Edinburgh Castle on this page.
